If the planets are what and the signs are how, the houses are where. Each one is an area of life, and a planet sitting in it says that part of you plays out there.
The houses are set by your birth time, not your birth date. Your first house begins at your rising sign, and the other eleven follow from there — so two people born on the same day with different birth times have the same planets in completely different houses. The sign listed against each house below is the one it is traditionally associated with while you are learning them, not the one in your own chart.
First House
Self & first impressions
The house of the self, and the one your rising sign sits at the start of. It describes the version of you that arrives in a room before you have said anything — your manner, your appearance, your instinctive first move in a new situation. Planets here are impossible to hide; they show up in how people describe you after meeting you once.
