Eros & Psyche
The two asteroids that describe how you love.
The planets get most of the attention, but a chart holds thousands of smaller bodies too. These two are the ones astrologers reach for when the question is romantic — one for the pull, one for the need underneath it.

A date is all it takes — no birth time, which makes this the one you can run on somebody else’s birthday.
Eros
What draws you in
Eros is desire itself — in the myth, the god whose arrow decides who wants whom. In a chart it describes the shape of your attraction: what turns your head, what you find erotic rather than merely pleasant, and the kind of pursuit that feels alive to you. Where Venus describes how you love once you are in it, Eros describes the pull that gets you there.
- Eros in Aries
- You are drawn to nerve. Someone who goes after you directly, who is a little bit of a challenge and completely unambiguous about wanting you. Hesitation cools you faster than rejection does, and the chase itself is a large part of the appeal.
- Eros in Taurus
- Attraction arrives through the senses and takes its time. Touch, voice, a good meal, someone who is unhurried and physically present. You want to be wanted steadily rather than dramatically, and you are drawn to people who feel solid.
- Eros in Gemini
- Your desire runs through the mind first. Wit, banter, a conversation that goes somewhere at two in the morning. Someone who can genuinely surprise you holds you far longer than someone who is simply beautiful, and boredom is the only real dealbreaker.
- Eros in Cancer
- You are drawn to tenderness and to being needed. Closeness has to feel emotionally safe before it feels exciting, and you find real intimacy in being let into someone's private life — the home, the family, the unguarded version.
- Eros in Leo
- You want to be adored and to adore back, visibly. Warmth, generosity and a certain amount of theatre. Being chosen in front of other people, being someone's obvious favourite, is the thing that lands for you.
- Eros in Virgo
- Attention is your erotic language. Someone who notices the details, who is careful with you, whose competence is quietly attractive. You are drawn to people who take the practical business of loving you seriously rather than talking about it.
- Eros in Libra
- Beauty, manners and the pleasure of being courted. You are drawn to symmetry and grace, to being pursued gracefully, and to the moment when mutual interest becomes obvious. Crudeness kills the whole thing for you.
- Eros in Scorpio
- You want the version of someone that other people do not get. Intensity, secrecy, being let into what is hidden. Half-measures leave you cold, and you find a certain danger in the exchange far more compelling than comfort.
- Eros in Sagittarius
- You are drawn to people who feel like an open door — travel, humour, someone whose world is wider than yours. Desire and freedom are tied together for you, and nothing dampens it faster than the sense of being kept.
- Eros in Capricorn
- Competence is attractive to you, and restraint even more so. Someone self-possessed, ambitious, not easily impressed. You are drawn to slow-burning attraction and to the pleasure of being taken seriously by someone hard to reach.
- Eros in Aquarius
- You are drawn to the unusual and the unpossessive. Friendship first, an equal who has their own life and no interest in owning yours. Convention flattens your desire; being genuinely understood by someone unlike anyone else revives it.
- Eros in Pisces
- Attraction arrives as atmosphere — music, tenderness, the sense of merging with someone. You are drawn to gentleness and to a certain amount of mystery, and you can fall for a feeling before you have checked who is carrying it.
Psyche
What you need to feel loved
Psyche was mortal, and in the myth she loves Eros before she is allowed to see him — then spends the story earning him back. In a chart she describes the vulnerable end of love: what you need in order to feel safe with someone, how you attach, and the wound love tends to press on. Eros is the spark; Psyche is what has to be true for it to last.
- Psyche in Aries
- You need to feel that someone actively chooses you, again and again. Reassurance through action rather than words. Being left to wonder where you stand is the thing that undoes you fastest.
- Psyche in Taurus
- You need consistency more than intensity. Someone who is still there in the ordinary weeks, whose affection does not fluctuate with their mood. Sudden change of any kind reads as danger to you, even when it is not.
- Psyche in Gemini
- You need to be talked to. Being kept in the dark, or having something important go unsaid, hurts you more than an argument would. You attach through conversation, and you feel loved when someone keeps telling you what is going on.
- Psyche in Cancer
- You need to feel safe before you can feel anything else, and safety for you means being someone's home. You attach deeply and slowly, remember everything, and are wounded most by being made to feel like an inconvenience.
- Psyche in Leo
- You need to be appreciated out loud. Affection that is felt but never expressed does not reach you. Being taken for granted is your particular injury, and open warmth is what heals it.
- Psyche in Virgo
- You need to feel useful and to know you are not too much. You show love by helping, and you are wounded by criticism far past the point the other person intended. Being accepted as you are, unimproved, is the hard and necessary thing.
- Psyche in Libra
- You need harmony and the sense of being an equal partner. Conflict genuinely destabilises you, and you will concede far past what is fair to restore peace. What you actually need is someone who will not let you disappear into agreement.
- Psyche in Scorpio
- You need total honesty, and you will find out either way. Trust is enormous for you and slow, and betrayal is not something you get over quickly. Once someone is truly in, your loyalty is close to absolute.
- Psyche in Sagittarius
- You need room and honesty in equal measure. Being confined makes you leave; being lied to makes you leave faster. You attach best to someone who lets you go and is still there when you come back.
- Psyche in Capricorn
- You need to know it is serious. Ambiguity is intolerable to you, and you would rather have a hard truth than a soft maybe. You are wounded by unreliability, and you love through steady commitment rather than declarations.
- Psyche in Aquarius
- You need to be accepted exactly as you are, including the parts that do not fit. Pressure to be normal is what wounds you. You attach through friendship and shared principles, and you need space without it meaning distance.
- Psyche in Pisces
- You need gentleness, and you need someone who does not take advantage of how much you give. You attach completely and forgive too easily. Being met with the same tenderness you offer is the thing that finally lets you rest.
Reading them together
Eros and Psyche are most useful side by side, and they do not always agree. An Eros drawn to intensity sitting next to a Psyche that needs steadiness describes a real tension — being pulled towards people who are not what you need. That gap is usually the more interesting half of the reading.
Both are read in everyone’s chart. Older texts hand Eros to men and Psyche to women; that split is not used here, and there is no astrological reason to keep it — desire and the need to be held safely belong to everybody.
Positions come from the NASA/JPL Horizons ephemeris for 433 Eros and 16 Psyche, covering 1900 to 2040. Asteroids are a modern addition to astrology — Eros was not discovered until 1898 — so nothing here is ancient tradition, whatever else it is.
